It is time to start thinking about Making a Christian Difference in Rio Bravo, Mexico in 2012. The Hill Country Missioners along with the Highland United Methodist Church in Michigan have scheduled the 2 weeks of February 11-18 and 18-25, 2012, for the mission work.
There will be a change next year in the administration of the teams. One of the goals has been to get volunteers, who have shared this mission experience in Rio Bravo, to develop additional teams and to eventually turn the leadership of the teams over to others. Beginning in 2012, Karie and Brian Saunders from Highland UMC, Michigan will have the overall administration of the two February mission teams. The Saunders have been with the Hill Country Missioners for the past few years and have been one of the main contacts in coordinating the Michigan volunteers. For several years the people from Michigan have out numbered the volunteers from Texas and other states. Bill & Edra Edwards have had meetings with the Saunders as they have worked together on the transition of administration of these teams to them.
Once again, The Church at Horseshoe Bay is supporting this mission in Rio Bravo. Edra & Bill Edwards will still participate fully in this mission as local coordinators, advisers and team members. They still will actively work with the past missioners here in recruiting local team members. The Saunders have prepared a brochure for next year (click here to open the brochure). However, as in the past, you should make your payments by check made out to The Church at Horseshoe Bay and send them to Bill & Edra Edwards at 213 Twin Sails, Horseshoe Bay, TX 78657. Later they will have a check sent to Highland covering all the fees for the local volunteers. It is hoped that again there will be several volunteers from Texas and other states join these teams. As an additional note, two other teams in Michigan have already grown from the Hill Country Missioners and sent teams to Rio Bravo. One is from the Brighton FUMC. They have been there for 3 years as a separate team - going the last week of January. The other team from Midland FUMC went for the first time this year for a week. Next year they are scheduled to go for 2 weeks in mid-January. Edra & Bill will also work again with Larry Acton's Keenagers' team the week of February 26-March 3, 2012. They have worked with them each year since 1999. As a special mission, they were just there from July 31 – August 4, 2011, with the Keenagers to build a casita in memory of their friend Jo Martin, who died in May, and in honor of her husband Harold.
If for some reason you want to participate in the Rio Bravo Mission and can not go on one of the Highland UMC/Hill Country Missioner teams, you would be welcomed to join any of the other teams mentioned. Just contact Bill or Edra and they will get the necessary information for you.
